Area of Focus:  Coordinate and support the design, alignment, implementation, and evaluation of all expanded learning services provided to students, including summer school, ASP (After School Programs), extended day programs, and Saturday School. Working in collaboration within and across school sites, applicable district departments, and contracted community partners, the Director is responsible for strategic development, organization and facilitation of services outside the school day that support the needs of students.

School-Based After School Programs

The Santa Maria-Bonita School District provides appropriate and effective Enrichment and Extended Day opportunities throughout the school year. These activities vary from site to site, but include: opportunities for remediation, enrichment, the arts, physical education and homework support.

At some sites, students may participate in the enrichment STEM Residential Program for Talented Youth and the SMBSD Robotics Program. The STEM Residential Program will increase junior high students' learning as well as provide a college and career readiness experience. This, in turn, will strengthen the students' critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as assist parents in understanding the university application process, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. If interested in these programs, contact your child's school office for information and availability.

In addition to extended day individual school site classes, SMBSD provides Primary Jumpstart, Summer School, and Newcomer classes. The district has expanded the previous Summer School program by increasing student enrollment at each individual school site that desires to participate in the Summer School program.

Migrant Education Program

The SMBSD Migrant Education Program, with support provided by Multilingual Services, is very successful in providing many supplemental services to all eligible Migrant students.
