Area of Focus: Provide assistance and guidance to Site Testing Coordinators and teachers with assessments.  LEA Coordinator of CAASPP and ELPAC.  Support in School City.  Monitor and review completion rates of CAASPP, ELPAC, NWEA, and Writing Assessment. 

Content Literacy;STEAM

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core instructional program in support of high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis integration of  STEAM into all content areas.  Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, model lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for instruction

Culture and Climate

Area of focus for the district is to help foster a positive school culture and healthy classroom climate in alignment with the district's vision for excellence in educating the whole child. This includes social-emotional development and working with teams on each campus to maximize engagement in classrooms in a variety of ways including the following: culturally responsive teaching, building relationships, creating a sense of belonging and inspiring curiosity for learning.

Research shows that failure to graduate is “less the result of intellectual shortcomings and more due to deficiencies in the social-emotional and character competencies.”

English Learners

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers  in the implementation of effective and efficient systems to support continuous academic progress of English Learners in all content areas. Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning and as a resource, specifically in the application of designated and integrated ELD lessons and most effective use of instructional materials for English Learners. Collect, analyze and present assessment data as it relates to English Learners.

Itinerant Preschool

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for the PreK classroom teacher, and staff in the implementation of the California Preschool Learning Foundations (CPLF) and Curriculum Frameworks in support of high-quality Tier 1 instruction. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, co-teaching, and assisting with preparation, Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), early language and literacy development, and mapping and pacing for instruction. Monitor and systematically review the impact of early learning development, as well as make recommendations for program and instructional improvement.

Literacy

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core literacy instructional program in relation to high quality Tier 1 instruction. Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, demonstration literacy lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for literacy instruction.  Monitor and review systematic impact of teaching and learning; reviewing formative and summative assessment data relative to standards in order to assess outcome of established goals.

Literacy and GATE

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core literacy instructional program in relation to high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis on GATE strategies and acceleration for all students . Oversee SMBSD GATE program, including GATE testing, providing GATE approved professional learning for new and returning GATE-certified teachers, and managing associated GATE systems, materials and resources.  Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning around literacy and  GATE strategies.  

Literacy Reading by Third Grade

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core literacy instructional program in relation to high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis on the PK-3rd grade continuum of learning. Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, demonstration literacy lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for literacy instruction. Monitor key performance indicators for grades PK-3rd in order to support teachers and address the needs of all learners.

Social Studies

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core instructional program in relation to high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis in Social Studies education. Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, demonstration literacy lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for literacy instruction. Develop and monitor a strong standards based Social Studies education program that addresses the needs of all students.

Special Education

Area of Focus: Provide consultation, specialized expertise, and support for both general education and special education teachers and staff in providing support for high-quality Tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction.  Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build the instructional capacity of teachers and leaders with regard to all areas of student need: SEL, behavior, academics, IEP development, and family connection. Provide support to all teachers through a dedicated Google classroom, professional learning, model lessons, and assisting with preparation, adapting/modifying, and pacing for instruction.

STEAM

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core instructional program in support of high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis in STEAM, Science, and Mathematics.  Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, demonstration STEAM, Science & Mathematics lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for instruction.

Teacher Development

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and a continuum of support for aspiring, new and existing teachers to attract and retain high quality educators. Work in partnership with Human Resources to recruit teachers, create teacher residency programs, identify student teacher placements, and assist in the development of a strong pipeline of support for new and veteran teachers. Provide support to classroom teachers through professional learning, demonstration lessons, and assisting with preparation, mapping and pacing for common core instruction.  Monitor and systematically review the impact of teaching and learning.

Technology

Area of Focus: Provide specialized expertise to teachers, administrators, and instructional support staff in the implementation of effective teaching strategies and successful integration of multiple technologies in order to differentiate and enhance student learning.. Provide relevant, up-to-date, embedded and ongoing technology-related professional development for teachers, staff and administration. Develop and oversee implementation of a district-wide comprehensive computer science plan. 

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) & Physical Education (PE)

Area of Focus: Provide leadership, specialized expertise, and support for classroom teachers and staff in implementation of the common core instructional program in relation to high quality Tier 1 instruction with special emphasis in Literacy, Visual and Performing Arts and Physical Education. Support the overall development and implementation of the College and Career ready plan. Participate in coaching cycles of support at sites to build instructional capacity of teachers and leaders. Support District AVID program.  Develop and monitor strong VAPA and PE programs that implement standards and address the needs of all students.
